Community Medicine
Overview:

Community Medicine is a regular recognized subject of Medical Education at UG and PG Levels. The basic objective of the subject is to prepare doctors for providing comprehensive Primary health Care the community. This requires education and teaching on issues of disease protection, health promotion, treatment of minor ailments and Health care delivery system act. At UG levels the teaching of the subject starts from 1st Semester and continues till end of 7 Semester when final exam is conducted. Three months of internship is allocated for this subject. At GMCH the department is well equipped structure wise, maternally and in form of manpower as per MCI rules to cater to above needs.

Course Curriculum:

The course curriculum as prescribed by MCI Na Rajasthan University of Health Science is adopted. It includes topics on issues of concept of Health & Disease, Social Science & Health , Nutrition, Environment, Demography and Family Planning, Occupational Health, Health Information and basic Health statistics, Preventive Medicine in Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Geriatrics, Principle of Epidemiology and Epidemiological methods, Epidemiology of Communicable and Non Communicable Disease, health Programmed in India, Hospital Waste, Management Disaster management, Health Planning and Management, Health Care delivery system, International Health Agencies etc.

 
Departmental Activities:
  • Student’s teaching is done through theory lectures, demonstration, clinical posting, field visits, family care programme, tutorials, Seminar and CMEs etc. with ample use of A.V. aids. Regular assessment of the imparted teaching followed by examination in theory and practical. For this the department has a laboratory , museum, research lab, library demonstration room etc.
  • In order to provide community oriented and rural based health care services of Preventive, Promotive and Curative nature the department has established a Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) at village Loyara and an Urban Health Centre are also attached to the department for students teaching and training in rural and urbal slum settings.
  • The department regularly celebrates National and International Health days like World Health Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Breastfeeding Week, World No TB Day, National Nutritional Week, Pulse Polio campaigns, World Aids Day etc. in befitting manner with active involvement of students.
  • Collaborating with college and Hospital department for their activities. Also coordinating with Health related departments of the state for students teaching and training.

  • Assessment of Breast Feeding Practices in different segments of the society in Udaipur region.
  • An analytical Study to find out Child Sex Ratio in Udaipur Region.
  • A study of prevalence of Anemia amongst Tribal and Non Tribal Women of Reproductive Age attending Anganwadi Center in Udaipur City, Rajasthan.
  • Awareness and attitude about Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) act and Emergency Contraceptive among married women in slums of Udaipur City, Rajasthan.

In these projects student’s participation was also involved.
